I work for Braintree. Based upon the unusual and inaccurate statements you make, it seems like you’re a fake and are trying to smear us. We’ve never had a customer say such things about us.
We checked all our systems and couldn't find a "Sam I" who has ever been a customer. More importantly, we work extremely hard to support our customers, and if we ever fall short, we do whatever we can to help make it right, even if that means referring them to another provider. That makes the experience you report extremely unlikely. Since your comments are out here, we'll respond to them so that others won't be misled.
1. There are plenty of options for merchants looking for a cheap provider. We'll be the first to tell prospective customers that we're not a fit for everyone. Anyone with payments experience will attest to the fact that there are substantial differences between payment providers that can make the world of difference for their business. We see it everyday. It's not a simple decision that can be reduced to price. Those that do so most often end up finding themselves in a pinch down the road.
2. Your comment about First Data is uninformed and misleading. Pricing among providers varies across the industry but this is not based on a company being an ISO (providers using another processor’s back end) or processor. Also, to assume parity in quality and service between any ISO or processor is just silly. Anyone in the business will tell you that.
Anonymity on the internet unfortunately makes this kind of slander possible, but it's unfortunate that you choose to do it.
Very expensive and locks you in :(
I used Braintree for a couple of years for a side project... I thought I could start small with them and then as I got bigger I could switch.
The problem is that switching gateways is a pain and I'm locked into their expensive gateway and ridiculously expensive vault (I ended up being able to switch processors - they just resell First Data and charge $$$ on top of that). I've now spent a fair amount of money and a lot of my development time getting out of their system (it was costing me an extra $20k/year, so it is well worth it)
DO NOT USE BRAINTREE. Braintree is easy to integrate with... but so is NMI/Authorize.net, and you are free to choose any payment processor with those guys.
